Behind the Broiler

Our Story

The Weaver family took over The Chef in 1992 and has run it ever since, with Ross Weaver at the helm today. Not much has changed, and that is the point. The burgers still come off the original Burger Chef flame-broiler that has been here since the building opened, and the Hot Slaw is still made the same way it was first ladled out decades ago.

What the Weavers really keep going is a promise: open every single day, the same recipes, the same welcome. In 2024 that Hot Slaw was named the first official state food of Tennessee, but to the folks behind the broiler it is simply what they have always made, for whoever walks in.
